Library

The library will be a mixed-use development comprising residential and commercial units. It will have 23 dwellings spread from the main library to the west wing (Scotia Road) portion. These expand to the first and second floor and will have mezzanine separation floors to divide the living and bedroom spaces.

A majority of these dwellings comprise two bedrooms with en-suites, open living, kitchen and dining space, and plenty of storage. There will be two commercial spaces on the main library fronting The Boulevard with a cafes, and community and cultural space.

External elements of the building including walls, windows, and roof will be repaired and made good. Where there are detractors to the listed building e.g. metal fire escape stairs, these will be removed to enhance the character of the library.

At the rear of the library, a newly landscaped courtyard will provide outdoor space for residents. It will also allow bicycle / scooter storage in an era where environmentally friendly transport is desired.

Baths

The old baths building and fire station fronting Greengates Street will be converted into ten residential units throughout the ground and first floor. These units will be a mix of one and two bedroom apartments. The pool hall will be divided into two spaces to allow for a recreational spa area and a gymnasium / dance studio. These facilities will be shared by the public and residents.

Much of the external frontage facing Scotia Road will be redeveloped to create an attractive and inviting entrance into this building.

Drill Hall

The drill hall will be another mixed-use development with the sports bar brought back to use for the public on the ground floor. The first floor will house 6 dwellings and the newly formed second floor (originally the roof) will be a sky bar to provide fantastic views towards Tunstall Memorial Gardens.

Adjacent to the drill hall and pool hall is the corporation yard, which will provide the parking spaces for both standard and electric vehicles.
